Mission: To use my time, energy and passion to create great events, dedicated to those that want to experience the contagious joys and rewards of moving our bodies forward. I want to celebrate the accomplishments of the amazing running/walking community in which I live, and hope to be a rescource to the community through our stores, events, coaching and participation.
My name is Paula Harkin. I am the founder of Runwithpaula Events, Inc. My husband Dave Harkin and I have grown events in Portland for more than 14 years. In 2013 we sold all of our award winning events to The Hood to Coast Series and are excited to begin a new path of amazing events. We are also the owners of Portland Running Company. PRC is an amazing place filled with amazing employees, great selection and service but most importantly Portland Running Company is a community club house that cares about you and your goals and your fitness. Try us out! We are an amazing resource and we are proud to be a local company serving our local community.
I am a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and business owner. I love to run. I love to run with with my friends and work hard at keeping myself fit and ready to participate in running events in and around Portland. I also love to travel to events. I like working out on my neighborhood track and being on Team PRC. I have run every single day for over 5+ years. I am a Registered Streaker with the United States Running Streak Association Registry. I have run in the Boston Marathon 3 times. I have run 25+ marathons, an ultra marathon, a sprint tri and I have participated in 2 long course duathlons. My husband Dave Harkin ran track and cross country for the University of Oregon and has won many local events over the years and continues to be extremely competitive both in the open and Masters categories. You can find him at the piano, playing the guitar, singing at races like the Shamrock Run or helping people with shoes at PRC. Dave's marathon PR is 2:27. He has been very competitive running marathons including the Boston Marathon. We were in Boston and witnessed the bombings in 2013. I am a marathon coach for Portland Fit and will begin my 14th year of coaching this program in March. I started a running club at Clubsport Oregon in 2000 and met an amazing group of people that I still run with today. The first event I produced was Fury of the Falls Trail Run during which we had a land slide, a lost runner and a snow storm. The last event I produced in 2013 was the West Linn Turkey Trot. Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan participated. My fastest marathon was at the Portland Marathon 3:16, my slowest marathon was The Sedona Marathon, 4:44, my favorite number is 444. I have participated in all of my events. My mom asks me "how far is this marathon?" after every race. My BFF and I are doppelgänger's. I Can't start my day without coffee. I created the "Label the Legs campaign" for Hood to Coast 2013. I ran 43 miles on the Rogue River Trail over 3 days with my girlfriends last May. I love seeing people set goals and acheive them. I have two cats. My son is the nicest person I know and is a Junior at Lewis & Clark College. My daughter is a freshman majoring in Primary Education at Linfield College. My favorite slogan: RUN YOURSELF BETTER.

Blog Post :: I Left My Heart In San Francisco
Do you ever ask yourself why you run? I pose this question because of the experience I had this weekend at the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco. I have been coaching a great woman by the name of Sarah Bowen Shea, freelance writer, in hopes of helping her meet her sub 4-hour marathon goal. Sarah was relentless in her training, doing everything I prescribed. Sarah kept a blog on Runnersworld.com for 6 months preparing for this marathon. I felt so happy to be a part of this experience and hoped that I could get her off on the right foot on race day morning. It was race day morning and I left the Sir Francis Drake with my girlfriends Karen and Kelli to go meet Sarah and her team of Runner’s World photographers.
